Slurry Seal Project Grinds On, and So Does Resident Patience
The joint Fairfax-San Anselmo slurry seal project kept residents guessing again this week, with the contractor issuing yet another schedule revision: Wreden Avenue paving, originally set for a different day, got pushed to Monday, August 31, while Main Court was slated for overnight paving Tuesday.
A Sunday night closure on Cascade, from Canyon Road to the end of the street, went ahead as planned \u2014 but the Town's own announcement acknowledged what residents have been saying for weeks: the delays and thin notification have been genuinely disruptive.
There's no sign this week that the shifting schedule has settled down. For now, the pattern holds \u2014 watch for last-minute street-specific updates rather than a fixed calendar.

The Chain-Store Ban Has an Expiration Date, and the Clock Is Now Visible
Fairfax's ban on new Formula Businesses \u2014 the town's term for chain retailers or restaurants with eight or more locations elsewhere \u2014 has been quietly in effect since March 4, 2026, but this week the Town made explicit just how temporary it is: the moratorium expires April 18, 2027 unless the Council votes to extend it.
That's just over seven months away, and so far the Town hasn't said what would trigger a renewal, or whether any policy work is underway to make the ban permanent, adjust it, or let it lapse.
Nothing on this week's agendas suggested the Council is taking it up soon \u2014 but for anyone tracking whether Fairfax stays chain-free, this is now a story with a deadline.

Draft Bike and Pedestrian Masterplan Wants Your Feedback \u2014 Before It's Locked In
Town staff released the Public Review Draft of the 2026 Bicycle and Pedestrian Masterplan this week, along with a survey inviting residents to weigh in on the projects it recommends.
There are two ways in: fill out the online survey, or show up to the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee meeting on September 21 at 7 pm at the Fairfax Women's Club, where the draft is formally on the agenda.
The town hasn't published a project list or route map in its public announcements yet \u2014 that detail lives in the draft plan and survey itself. Anyone with opinions on bike lanes, crossings, or sidewalk gaps has a few weeks to get input in before the committee takes it up in earnest.
