House-size formula back on the table at tonight's FAR subcommittee

The Floor Area Ratio Joint Subcommittee has called a special meeting for today, Monday, Nov. 17, with a single substantive item on the agenda: discussion of potential amendments to the city's floor area ratio regulations.

Floor area ratio is the formula that caps how much house can go on a Larkspur lot, and it sits behind a large share of the design-review arguments that reach the Planning Commission. The agenda posted by the city does not include a staff recommendation or draft amendment language — it lists the item as a discussion.

Because this is a subcommittee, nothing decided today changes the code on its own; any amendment would have to move on to the bodies that appoint the subcommittee. Residents who want a say on how big a neighbor's remodel can be are better off at this stage than after a specific project is filed.
