Two Public Hearings Consider Vacating Street Right-of-Way at Redwood and Sequoia

The Council held back-to-back public hearings Tuesday night on whether to vacate portions of public right-of-way adjacent to 250 Redwood Rd and 79 Sequoia Drive, two unrelated properties where the town currently holds a legal claim to strips of land next to the roadway.

Right-of-way vacations are a formal, often overlooked step: once the town gives up its interest in a paper strip of road frontage, the adjoining property owner typically gains full control of that land, which can affect fencing, setbacks, and future building plans. The agenda materials released ahead of the meeting did not include a staff recommendation, so it is not yet clear whether town staff urged approval or raised concerns for either parcel.

No outcome or public comment was included in the materials available for this issue. Residents interested in what was actually decided should check the meeting video or wait for approved minutes.

Council Takes Up Five-Year Capital Improvement Plan

Tuesday's agenda asked the Council to approve the FY2027-FY2031 Capital Improvement Plan, the town's rolling five-year roadmap for infrastructure spending on things like streets, facilities, and public works projects. Staff determined the plan itself is not a project subject to CEQA review, since adopting the plan doesn't authorize construction on its own.

The same meeting also took up a related, narrower item: a consultant contract to design the 2027 Street Resurfacing Project, which staff found exempt from environmental review as a minor alteration to an existing road. Together, the two items give a sense of what paving and capital work San Anselmo residents can expect over the next several years, though the agenda materials don't break out project-by-project detail or dollar figures.

No outcome or public comment on the Capital Improvement Plan was included in the materials available for this issue.
