ADU plan on E. Blithedale asks to exceed the floor area limit
At 288 E Blithedale Avenue, the owners want to tear down a detached 329-square-foot accessory structure and replace it with a detached 1,000-square-foot Accessory Dwelling Unit behind the existing single-family home. The lot is 6,229 square feet in the RS-6 zoning district.
Because the proposed ADU is not exempt from the city's floor area rules, the application also carries a request for an exception to exceed the adjusted floor area limit — the piece of the project most likely to draw scrutiny. The plans additionally call for removing two non-heritage redwood tree trunks.
The agenda lists the project as categorically exempt from CEQA review and does not state a staff recommendation. It is Item 1 on today's Zoning Administrator agenda.
