Council Previews New Wildfire Coordinator Role and Center Boulevard Evacuation Clearance

The Town Council used Tuesday's meeting to lay groundwork on two wildfire-readiness fronts, receiving back-to-back presentations rather than taking formal action on either.

First up was a briefing on the town's Wildfire Preparedness Coordinator role, a new position meant to centralize the town's fire-readiness efforts. Staff noted that simply receiving the presentation does not constitute a "project" under CEQA, meaning no environmental review was triggered by the discussion itself.

The council then turned to the Center Boulevard Evacuation Route Clearance Project, a plan to keep that roadway passable for residents evacuating during a wildfire. As with the coordinator item, this was an informational presentation only — staff again flagged that it doesn't count as a CEQA "project" at this stage.

Both items were simply received and filed. Residents should expect more concrete details on staffing, funding, or construction timelines to come back to the council as these efforts move from presentation to implementation.
