Public Comment Turns to Marina Enforcement During Closed-Door Council Meeting

Tuesday's special City Council meeting was almost entirely closed session — city manager employment, pending litigation, and real property negotiations over 558 Bridgeway — but the open public comment period turned into the liveliest part of the night, with residents demanding the city crack down on conduct at Bridgeway Marina.

Longtime commenter Skip Clager told the council the city has been unable to stop one operator from damaging the harbor. "I don't understand the process," he said of the city's inability to enforce its own rules against the person he says is harming the harbor.

Ted Haneck went further, arguing the city has a ready fix. He said there are "very serious violations of the public trust doctrine" at the marina and that the city could address them by modifying Conditional Use Permit number 467, which he said includes a lease provision requiring the tenant to accept such changes. An unidentified council member responded by asking that a Mr. Hoyt — apparently another party pressing for changes — be invited to submit his specific proposed CUP modifications in writing.

No action was taken in the closed session itself on the city manager, the 558 Bridgeway property negotiations, or the pending Russo v. City of Sausalito litigation. The council's next regular meeting is set for September 1.
